GUST organizes festival for people with disabilities
Gulf University for Science and Technology’s (GUST) Mass Communications Department organized a festival for people with disabilities yesterday at the Kuwait Scientific Center. “‘Cause’ is a social responsibility project that is part of a student-faculty collaboration series, which each year organizes a major conference,” said Antonia Jolic, an instructor at the Mass Communications Department. She told Kuwait Times that this event will raise money for a good cause for people with disabilities. “Fifty students are participating in this event in cooperation with three children’s charities paired with three leading agencies - Kuwait Association for Learning Differences (KALD) and Senyar Marketing and Branding; Kuwait Child’s Rights Society (KCRS) and Blu Lowe Marketing and Advertising; and Abeer2 Voluntary Group for the Mentally Disabled and Horizon FCB; along with other private and government organizations. This year the theme is public relations with an emphasis on social responsibility. The effort is specifically aligned with Goal 4.5 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 2017, of which Kuwait is a signatory,” Jolic said. Three phases Dalal Al-Enzi, a GUST student, said ‘Cause’ involves three phases - the launch event at the Scientific Center with activities throughout the afternoon such as storytelling, stage shows and arts and crafts, followed by fundraising campaigns. The launch event kicks off the three fundraising campaigns running throughout March. Selected charities along with their PR/advertising agencies will use creativity and a pre-set budget to raise money for their organization through “crowd funding” on www.jaribha.com, and the last phase is a conference highlighting key causes. Socially responsible community leaders will speak during the conference from April 10-14, 2016 on the GUST campus with the participation of Spread the Passion, UNDP and Jarbha. An award ceremony will recognize efforts and present the Al-Shakoor lifetime achievement award for CSR.
